On disappointments and the future...

An interruption to the bridemaids card series. Today I am feeling like this:

... plus a whole lot of tears. And by a whole lot, I mean I cried so hard after I got home from work that I now have a throbbing headache. And I cried on my 15 at work.

Today we found out the unofficial word that Mr. KM probably didn't get into his P.h.D. program. He was so close and would have gotten in if one of the candidates they had interview had messed up. However, because he's young and therefore inexperienced for a candidate in his field, it put him at a disadvantage against other people going for the same spot. This means alot of things that I don't really like that much.

1) It means that Mr. KM might have to get a second masters- that means taking out LOTS of student loans. No one likes that.

2) It means that Mr. KM has to delay his P.h.D studies. If we ever decide to kids (don't want any now) we'd want this out of the way. Now that we've tacked on a second masters, we're look at at least 7 more years of school. That's a long time, especially when I still need to go back to get my masters!

3) This one hurts the most. It means we won't get to move back to my hometown. His P.h.D. program was in Atlanta. I grew up there, that's home. That's where my parents and my best friends and things to do on the weekends (and Paper Source) are. And I was so, so looking forward to being back there. And now that's mostly off the table and it breaks my heart.

4) We don't know where we're going to end up moving to in August anymore. Before, we could kind of count on where his P.h.D. program was, or the two masters programs. Now the field is wide open depending on where he gets a preaching job. This one is hard because... man. We could go anywhere, but don't have anywhere to go. Between planning a wedding and finding out where we're going to end up...yikes! No doubt we can do it, but it's alot to take in.

The plus side is that now we're wide open! Our options are limitless. And there's still a tiny, tiny, tiny chance he could still be offered a spot. However unlikely that chance is, it's still there. It's just a little disheartening to see Mr. KM so heartbroken when I KNOW he's so smart that really the experience thing is what is keeping him back.

What setbacks in the real world did you face while planning your wedding? How did you overcome them? And how did you deal with the emotional meltdown that accompanied them?
