Unless the tables aren't assigned. The tables don't have a "reserved" sign for the family tables so the selfish person gets to sit right next to the bride, and her mom is back near the bathroom. You let all the groups of friends choose their tables first since you don't know a soul there and you end up sitting with the most awkward person at the wedding; the one who may or may not have attached firecrackers to their cats back... and then lit them. Or feeds ham to llamas. I hate that feeling. Not knowing where to go, what to do, or who to sit with and not knowing a single person.
I wanted more than anything to avoid forcing that feeling on our guests. But then I got stressed out about what to use for escort cards. I didn't get stressed out about what tables people should at and with whom. I was much, MUCH more concerned about how they were going to get there. For some reason, I had it in my head that this was the MOST important part of the reception, the detail that every single person would judge. Here are just some of the options I considered:

We both love typewriters...
And corkboards...

This is from one of Mrs. Lipgloss posts! I liked how modern it looked.

This one was probably my favorite. That little jar is SO cute! And we both love to cook.

None of these are the one I chose, but they were all very serious contenders. At one point, I had 274 pictures of escort card examples in my computer file named "escort cards"... I wish I were kidding, but I was that obsessed. And not a single one seemed to work, because none of them were "personal enough". I let this one detail try to dictate the whole personality of our wedding, and it drove me to tears many, many times. But not a single second while I was fretting did I stop to think that this wedding is personal because it's mine. This is our marriage, our wedding, and because we made certain choices, the wedding will show us and our personalities in it. I stopped worrying and ta-da! The idea came to me one night before I went to bed. And I'll share it... in my next post!
Did any detail of your planning almost derail you completely? How did you deal with it? And how obsessed were you til you figured out a solution?
